Dr Marissa Muthu

Dr Marissa MuthuDr Marissa Muthu joined the practice as a part-time salaried general practitioner in January 2004.   She is married, with three children and lives in Epsom, Surrey. She was educated locally at Sutton High School. 

She did the first part of her medical training at Cambridge University and the second part at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, graduating in 1997.  Her first post was in Bath and then she returned to Oxford, before working in St Thomas’ Hospital A&E department in London.  She then spent some months in Kingston and Tolworth Hospitals in general medicine and elderly care medicine, before moving to Winchester to commence a 3-year general practice training scheme.  This involved working in several specialities relevant to general practice, including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, general medicine, ear nose and throat medicine, dermatology and rheumatology.  She spent the final year of the scheme in a general practice in Andover and then worked as a self-employed GP before joining Spring Street Surgery. 

Since August 2005 she job-shares with Dr Sumathy Suntharalingam.

DRCOG Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2000
DFFP Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care 2001
DCH Diploma in Child Health 2001
MRCGP Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (distinction) 2002

Dr Muthu’s availability for surgery consultations:

  • Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon
  • Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon

The practice is still operating personal lists.  Dr Muthu shares her patient list with Dr Suntharalingam.  She is also happy to see any patients of Dr Orton’s or Dr Holbrook’s who would rather see a female doctor for a particular problem, usually as a one-off consultation.
